Social Inclusion

Though Bhutan is relatively progressive with sustainability, the country still suffers from waste and disregard for the environment. Additionally, Bhutan is lagging behind in issues of gender equality. Women are still not allowed to vote in Bhutan because there is only one vote per household. There were multiple articles from Bhutan's local paper Kuensel regarding the election in Bhutan and gender inequality. An article entitled "Bumthang prefers men as leaders" goes on to address the stigma that many men in Bumthang (which is a district) believe, claiming that women would not be as competent leaders as men would be.

  1. That's interesting - I didn't know about the household vote limitation - the website embedded is a little dated. I guess UAE allows women to vote. I really like how you embedded the cites into the blog - nice work.
